Keep it clean

Since dirt scratches hardwood, your 'keep the floors looking brand new' plan should include indoor and outdoor mats as well as a cleaning routine. It's best to sweep well-used floors daily, while areas with less foot traffic can be swept bi-weekly or weekly. Use a soft-bristled broom, a dry microfiber mop, or vacuum cleaner attachments designed for hard surface flooring. Robotic vacuums can lighten your workload, and they are perfectly acceptable for use on engineered or solid hardwood flooring.

Deep cleaning

If you deep clean your floors every few months, you'll remove dirt and grime that is left behind with routine cleaning. Combine warm water and a hardwood floor cleaner in one bucket and fill a second bucket with warm water only. Dampen a microfiber mop, clean a small section of the floor using a circular motion, and rinse the mop in the water-only bucket. Then soak up excess cleaning solution with a damp mop. Do not use soap-based cleaners, which leave a residue.
